Braille Watch falls short of funding

Kickstarter is a website that allows creatives to crowd source funding for their creative projects. The service received a lot of exposure when Designer Scott Wilson successfully raised funds beyond his expectations for his ipod watch band project. Thus, he created a lot of expectations for the platform to fund other concept projects such as the Haptica, a next generation wristwatch that has been making the rounds through blogs and museum exhibits as a potential successor to watches made for the blind. Braille Watch wins Awards

David Chavez’s Haptica is a moveable Braille wristwatch concept that has now received both the Bronze IDEA 2008 Award and the Ultimate Spark Award. A recent Industrial Design graduate, Chavez got his first hand experience in watches with an internship at Vestal, the makers of Vestal, Paul Frank and Rocawear watches among others. His concept, the Haptica differs from current Braille time devices that either allow the user to ‘feel’ the watch hands on the watch face or use sound to communicate the time.
